Little Things Swallows and Little Things

Article written by Gavin S
Mar 18, 2007.

Young quartet from Guildford, Little Things perform pop. Pop, pop and more pop. While all completing university degrees they have managed to release their second demo-E.P., “Swallows And Little Things”.

While it is impossible to describe their performances as “tight”, one can sympathise. Achieving a polished sound cannot be easy when you pack as much into each track as Little Things consistently do. There are heaps of things going on here and male vocalist Henry’s control occasionally suffers.

These songs are full of love and goodwill. On Red Estate Car the subject of this affection is directed towards friends, “But I feel like the luckiest guy, ‘cos these cool people think that I’m alright. But I feel like the happiest guy, ‘cos these cool people want to make me smile.”

A warm pop-song topped off with vocals flying in all directions and… wait. Is that a kazoo?! Vocalist Rokhsan takes the lead on “When I Get To Sleep I Just Can't Believe That I Get To Dream Of You”, singing with a carefree, summertime style. It’s an effective, warm approach.

This is a young band writing fabulous, upbeat pop-tunes. It is hard to doubt that as their experience and studio time grows lovers will skip along hand-in-hand to these affectionate songs. It is testament to the enthusiasm and creativeness of Little Things that they are able to cram various styles into a 3 minute song. These are extremely busy tracks, yet the result? Yup, pop!
