Nakeru
Nakeru EP

Article written by Matt P - Aug 12, 2005

Nakeru are yet another indie four-piece to emerge from London. In fact, from the same area of London as recent luminaries Bloc Party, which could bode well. Apparently the band has been together for almost three years, so they've had plenty of time to hone their sound. And their sound is rather a pleasant one.

All three songs have a Libertinian quality to them, which may not be hardly surprising considering they have worked with producer Nick Terry. The intro to the first song, "Lights! Camera! Action!" is very reminiscent of the Cribs' "Martell", to the point where I had to play them in quick succession just to make sure!

From there though, the song rips along in catchy fashion. Doubly catchy is the funky "Malena On Ice", where the guitar riffs suggest they may be destined for higher things. The vocalist OJ Lim's tones compliment the tracks nicely throughout and the production is also good. They might just have what it takes to stand out from the London indie crowd.
