Electrelane To The EastToo Pure

Now, I’m no technical expert. Whilst sitting watching a music DVD the other day, I absent-mindedly pressed a button on the remote and was blown away by the sudden transformation into surround-sound sensory overload. The new Electrelane single desperately needs such a button hidden somewhere. It may be because it’s only a 7” release but To The East has the production values of a demo recorded in a shed. With the microphones left outside.
Which is a real shame, because underneath the abysmal failure to record it properly, there’s a lovely tune here. An almost Franz Ferdinand-esque bass n’ drum stomp intro quickly gives way to a gorgeous swirling organ, ethereal vocals and possibly their most heartfelt and romantic track to date. Fingers crossed that a better version sees the light of day sometime.
