Falcon
Don't Be Afraid Self Released

Article written by James A - Apr 29, 2007

Hearing this without any background knowledge you could easily be forgiven someone had slipped some Flaming Lips tracks on that had yet to appear on your radar. Admittedly singer Neil Rosen’s voice is less world-weary than Wayne Coyne’s but it’s definitely cut from the same mould across these four tracks. The themes are similar too, “don’t be afraid if you see something that scares you”, is uplifting in adversity. Deer Song also teeters on the brink of being Yoshimi pt.2.

Two members, Shannon Ferguson and Jason Molina, may be more familiar to you from New York based Longwave. It’s poignant, soaring and reflective in its subject matter, it will veer too close to a certain other band for some but there is more than enough space for me for both. If there is a record label involved they are pretty slack at letting on their name so the fact that this is potentially self-released adds further to the charm. Catch them at a one off UK gig at the Dublin Castle, Camden on 8th May and be your own judge, I’m on board.
