Whenever I’m sent something to review, I’ll always make sure I listen to it at least three times, whether I like it or not. Because acts have been bothered to send us stuff, the least we can do is give their stuff a fair hearing, and avoid any ‘knee-jerk’ reaction. This time I’ve failed. I’m sorry. Twice was all I could bear. In the interests of fairness, here’s a reasonably objective kind of review.
A hinterland is an area more remote than its surrounds, normally lying ‘twixt more developed areas. Such as Heavy Metal and Indie Rock, for example. This band are recommended for fans of ‘Fugazi, The Wildhearts, Three Colours Red, The Foo Fighters, Feeder, Pixies… Biffy Clyro, Incubus, Reuben’. You get the idea. There are three tracks here, ‘Vote With Your Feet’ ‘Fight Your Way Back’ and What Gets You Off’. I wonder if ALL their songs are written about ‘you’. The singer sings pretty much in tune, and the guitar, bass and drum parts are played competently. The production is also fitting for the material. There you go.
Doubtless there are fans of this kind of thing, but I’ll always prefer subtlety and juxtaposition to volume and aggression.
