The Medway’s Quad Riot apparently beat off 1000 other hopefuls to claim some two bit music prize and nail this single release. While it’s tempting to speculate about the standard of the others, this is actually very enjoyable catchy and frothy indie pop, pitched somewhere between Kaiser Chiefs and the Rumble Strips. The lyrics concern the frontman’s childhood experiences as a mixed race kid in a predominantly white school but it’s his drilled staccato style voice that will probably polarize views. I'm firmly in the "Anything that sounds a bit like Dexys must be good" camp, so three thumbs up*.
*Note to self, must get the doctor to see that mutated left hand...
