The Mules We’re Good People Kartel 7”

The beauty of the ‘Save Your Face’ album is its glorious unpredictability, summed up in the new single which combines jumpy Talking Heads punk-funk with whoopee jazz and even a taste of tango (the rhythm, not the drink). The other side of the single, ‘Problems With Exits’, is slow/fast Pogues-style gypsy jazz characterised by a piano being battered and a violin sawing away ferociously. To show how cred they are now, there’s even a remix of ‘We’re Good People’ by CSS floating around. Utterly infectious, and only one of a number of brilliant songs on ‘Save Your Face’, this is further confirmation of their swimming-against-the-tide brilliance.
