Bon Bon Club Sex On FireRare Breed Records 3” CD

The trio continue their series of guitar-less cover versions with a second single covering Kings of Leon, Dubstar and Fleetwood Mac, and the concept hasn’t yet encountered the law of diminishing returns. The Club's pulsing bass and ecstatic keyboards cut through the priapic posturing of the original 'Sex On Fire' and make the Kings of Leon's cliches a lot more palatable - it's a thick-as-shit song turned miraculously artrock. Best of the three is 'The Day I See You Again', which keeps the melodic sweetness but adds sultry vocals, while organ/ bass/ drums work together in glorious alignment. It might have the feel of being the work of a hobby band but it still manages to induce smiles (not least for the sweetie bag the single comes packaged in).
