Burial & Four Tet Wolf Cub/MothText Records

Like it or not, William Bevan, rumours continue to abound in Forumland about just who exactly lays claim to the Burial moniker. This 12-inch only secret collaboration with Kieran Hebden, aka Four Tet, has given rise to a wave of new rumblings that these former pupils of the same South London Comprehensive might share a whole lot more than just a wistful memory of the day a dog ran into the playground.
Wherever the truth may lie, these two nine-minute epics marry perfectly Four Tet's meandering, mottled rhythms with Burial's Late-night-London dub poundings. Wolf Cub's plinking intro soars majestically for a couple of minutes before being shot down and injected with a deadly dose of two-step syncopation, lifted straight from one of Burial's unreleased tracks, Archeron.
Moth is perhaps the more natural compound of the duo's sounds, a slower beat this time interlacing with synths, more plinks and a distant female vocal to create something both haunting and soothing in equal measure.
Further joint releases are in the pipeline in the near future, and on this evidence there’s every reason to be excited.
