Single/Download Review

Carl Sagan
A Glorious Dawn

Article written by Ged M - Jan 27, 2010

Jack White’s latest release on Third Man sounds bizarre (a one-sided and etched 7” containing the voices of Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking set to weird space-rock) but the associated video for ‘We Are All Connected’ is among the most viewed YouTube videos of all time. For his ‘Symphony of Science’ series, US composer John Boswell mixed electronic music and auto-tuned samples of the most profound words from Sagan, Hawking and other cosmologists. Trouble is, scientists aren’t very lyrical so the stitched-together words sound glib and pompous and the music is over-boffinish prog-rock. It’s another eccentric White release on his private label but ought to be stuck in formaldehyde and left in a jar on a shelf at the back of the lab. File under “freakish errors of nature” next to the Legend’s singles for Creation Records.
