Some people may know Owain Griffiths as the lead vocalist with the band Violas, but the Cardiff-based musician has now joined forces with producer Llion Robertson to manufacture a sound that's a little different from his main band. Under the name of Carw, Griffiths' debut EP 'Les Sœurs' was released last week and lead track 'Elevate' is both punchy and gentle all at once.
With some pummelling electronic beats that have beamed straight in from the first half of the 1980s, 'Elevate' also utilises a low bass frequency for extra power, while intertwined guitars twinkle away in the background. Vocals are treated with a couple of different effects for an otherworldly quality and the end product is intricate, interesting and instantly likable. Don't give up the day job, that would be a shame, but if you could keep on moonlighting like this then everyone's a winner, especially us.
