Jaga Jazzist
One Armed Bandit Album Edit Sampler Ninja Tune Records

Article written by James G - Jan 1, 2010

Wikipedia tells me that “Jaga Jazzist is widely considered to be one of the premier acts of the so-called nu-jazz movement of Scandinavia.” Apparently they have been knocking around for a good 15 years or so, in varying forms. Never heard of them meself, but all I know is what I hear. And what I hear is great. Four instrumentals presented as a sampler to upcoming album ‘One Armed Bandit’. Instrumentals that, depending which way the wind’s blowing, can sound like the soundtrack to either a late 70’s soft porn movie or to a speeded up bit of footage of a skyscraper being built – especially so with ‘Book Of Glass’. This is proggy electro jazz at its best, never unpleasant or hard on the ears but certainly leftfield, and performed expertly. More please.
