According to his press release, Jon De Rosa looks like a Hell’s Angel crossed with the Source Factory. I haven’t seen the evidence (not sure I want to after than description) but he has the voice of an angel, judging by his most recent singles. ‘Coyotes’ (CD and download) has his beautiful baritone croon on an elegant, classy track that sounds a little like ‘Spanish Harlem’ if performed by Stephin Merritt. The other side of that single is the spooky Americana of ‘High And Lonely’, the wailing guitars eerily conjuring images of wolves gathering on spooky plains. ‘Dancing A Dream’ (download only) is the one you should hear if you only have time for a single JDR track. It’s blissful, shimmery dreampop with a gorgeous melody, where De Rosa is partnered perfectly with Carina Round. But his voice is again captivating, possessing the dark romanticism of Richard Hawley if he were soundtracking a David Lynch noir.
