MJ Hibbert and the Validators Easy Christmas self-released

I was a naysayer for a long time but, like sprouts, I’ve grown to appreciate the many qualities of Mark Hibbert. Indiepop’s renaissance man, as comfortable knocking out a impromptu commentary on the issues du jour of the independent scene as he is performing his rock opera ‘Dinosaur Planet’, he can always be relied on for a droll observation at this time of year, which his band slip into his ‘Christmas selection box’. 2014’s offering is the skiffletastic ‘Easy Christmas’, a plan for seasonal avoidance through drunkenness, that thrashes away for less than two minutes and throws in smart observations and a Dylan impression for good measure. There’s something Victoria Wood-ish about his way with a topical tune (meant in a most positive way), which means that it always makes an impact, even if it’s only in the short term - but that works perfectly for your Christmas number. God bless all of us and may we all be completely pissed by half-past nine.
