Considering that German songwriter Matthias Roos apparently started his Maddes project back in the '90s, it's taken him an awfully long time to get a proper debut album together. One can only assume that his multi-talents stalled this work, as he's spent the past few years as the drummer for Soft Plastic, Captain Volleyball and others. It's vocals, guitars and production that he showcases on 'Fielded' though, the latter of those being shared with Filippo Gaetani.
The album's new single 'Idaho' is light and breezy indie that uses pastel shades and a laid-back vibe to seduce your brain, coupling this with chimes of electric guitar and more of a complexity of sound that it seems to let on at first. There is a mellow twang of Elliot Smith about this track and also hints of dreampop drifting by, all filtered through mid-period Teenage Fanclub. It's not a bad way to announce yourself, and it kind of leaves you wishing he hadn't waited do darn long to do so.
