Magic Kids
Hey Boy Goner Records 7"

The seven-strong Magic Kids (there are another 12 in their “orchestra”) are from Memphis and their glorious, joyful ‘Hey Boy’ (Goner Records 7”) is one of the highlights of the year. It has an innocent feel, an echo of great pop from the likes of the Beach Boys and Jonathan Richman (with maybe a bit of Wizzard’s glam pop) and, when the massed voices kick in, it hits another level. After a couple of listens (and I defy you to restrict yourself to just a couple) you’ll be addicted to its simple but classic pop moves.
