There are some bands you think you ought to check out but never quite get around to. All too often when you do, the moment has passed and you're left scratching your head. So it's great, having finally caught up with them, to find that Maps do exactly what the rave reviews say they do.

The slightly bleary stately beats and warmly uplifting synth swells all hit the mark - and firework noises on pop records always do something marvellous to the heart. It recalls the strange tentative stirrings of joy that Arab Strap conjured on their later records. Ace really.
