Noah and the Whale

The kooky name and the previous cheery ad-friendly Five Years Time hit will have led some to unfairly dismiss Noah and the Whale as daytime radio pop fodder. As a result the pooh-poohers will have missed out on their utterly charming and occasionally brilliant debut album and will presumably be giving its forthcoming follow-up long player a swerve, from which this melancholic ballad has been released as a very limited taster. It's the "I Will Survive" tale of a young man finally closing the tear sodden book on the former love of his life before marching confidentally onwards to a new life. Yes, it's sentimental and as wet as a weekend in Kendal but you'd have to have a house brick for a heart to not be touched, and its sweet melodies and trumpeted finale add to its charm.
