Paperface
A Bigger Man Daydream Records

The mysterious Paperface (hard to discover whether this is literally true) is a singer/songwriter and storyteller who lives in a lighthouse. The songs on his second single start nicely enough but in each case it’s the addition of the orchestra (recorded in Prague) which really make them something interesting. The 70s pop of ‘A Bigger Man’ is kept from becoming too cute by the horns, strings and a nifty chorus while ‘The Leading Lady’ sets a relationship breakdown in theatrical images, the strings adding the right amount of tragedy. Not indie, very poppy but perfectly pleasant.
