Yo Mama (Chess Club 7”

They changed their name before from Peggy Sue and the Pirates, and this time they've changed themselves into nu-folkies, alongside people like Joe Flynn and the Mumfords. They have alluring voices, especially when they're in harmony, but that’s all you listen to in the song; the songs themselves, apart from some in-your-face percussion on ‘Yo Mama’, don't have stickability. I keep waiting for their melancholic folk to knock me over but I always stay upright with a feeling of mild disappointment.
