Single Review

Pop Levi
Police Sign/Terrifying Counter Records

Article written by Mary B - Jun 26, 2009

Apparently Pop has gone back to basics with this release. His glossy produced second album, 'Never Never Love' did not receive the greatest of reviews, though I enjoyed it immensely.

This is raw and dirty. Pop went to the Californian desert near Joshua tree at christmas to record and this is the first offering from that experience. 'Police Sign' is about a roller-skating femme-fatale. Only Pop can offer something up like this and get away with it. Once again he embraces all kinds of musical genres from garage rock to blues. He throws them in to his magical blender and pours us a glass of originality.

'Terrifying' is a tribute to the underground filmaker, Kenneth Anger. The guitar chords fight with Levi's dramatic sounding lyrics for just under three minutes. Phew! You can love or hate Mr Levi but let it never be said that this man does not dance to the beat of his own drum. I look forward to the third album.
