Paddy Considine is quoted as saying “this isn’t some half-arsed actor wanking off in a band” and the EP suggests he’s telling the truth. He was first in a band in Burton-on-Trent with the Leisure Society’s Nick Hemming, Shane Matthews and Rich Eaton and now he and Eaton are two-fifths of Riding The Low, inspired by his love of Guided By Voices. So not only is he one of the UK’s best actors, he has pretty sound musical taste too. The four tracks sound a lot like GBV (the punchy ‘Easy On Our Own’) and early REM (the moodily melancholic ‘Catch You When You Go’). There have been some totally gash actors-turned-popstars (hang your head Keanu) but this stands up and stands out.
