Sunray Take Me There Strawberry Recording Co

A band who were the Guardian’s “new band of the day” in October 2007, Aylesbury’s Sunray (fronted by Jon Chambers, also a spacepop artist) make droney psychedelic pop, owing a lot to Ride, and more than a little to Spacemen 3 and the most blissed out bits of the Byrds. Guitars soar, the bassline pulsates and vocals float in a narcotic bliss. On the other side, ‘Golden Dawn’ is Nick Drake-like folky pop, with some sumptuous strings and a feeling of hazy autumnal mornings. There’s nothing new here but, as befits a band who’ve been around a long time, they do everything with style. (And they’re so retro there’s no website that I can find for them).
