The Deadline Shakes
Phonecalls In The Bath Flowers In The Dustbin

Article written by Kev W - May 31, 2015

The Deadline Shakes are great. The primary reason for this is because you never quite know what you're going to get, or where the songs will take you on their meandering journies. They've given us scratchy guitar riffs, Byrds-like harmonies, inventive song structures and tonnes of melody over the course of a few singles, so news that their album will be out later this year should be greeted with a good degree of excitement.

New single 'Phonecalls In The Bath' lives up to its predecessors, beginning as a forlorn, '60s-flecked pop song backed by gently sweeping strings and subtle brass. We're soon in a melodic wonderland that can perhaps be described as The Delays merging with The Waterboys (if that's not too difficult to imagine!). The attention to detail is further enhanced, almost to Brian Wilson levels, as a more electronic vibe creeps in and the tune hurtles towards its finale with the line "God knows that you're so pretty". We couldn't agree more.
