The Ettes Danger Is EPTake Root Records

Rolling Stone calls The Ettes “the new Cramps”. That’s a big claim not borne out here (I’d say the new Ravonettes at this point), but it does have Liam Watson producing and the backing of Dan Auerbach of Black Keys. The NY-moved-to-LA three piece (2 girls, 1 boy) look pristine on their videos and make danceable garage rock with just-so reference points (White Stripes, Childish, the Greg Cartwright universe). ‘No Home’ has a touch of ‘Seven Nation Army’ about it and a monstrous, grungy bass putting out menacing vibrations while ‘Subject’ crawls out of a dirty fuzz mire and shows off bright, trebly voices. Designer garage then, like those Ravonettes, but with credible midwives.
