Slumberland’s Searching For the Now series, reaching vol 6, focuses on the UK. The School’s version of the Left Banke’s ‘And Suddenly’ is like sherbet on the tongue, a fizzy burst of multi-layered pop topped with Liz's honeyed cooing. It has the orchestrated elegance of the 60s combined with a contemporary verve that makes it the best thing they've done to date.
George Washington Brown is Pete Gofton, aka J Xaverre, aka Johnny X from Kenickie, on his lonesome on ‘End of the…’ and making a thrashy and scratchy indiepop noise, like an English relative of Wavves and No Age. The whirring synths on the more thoughtful ‘The Twin Towers’ remind you of his more experimental edge, with touches of his North Eastern muckers The Week Than Was.
