Soy Un Caballo/This Is The Kit
A Travers La Niege/Birchwood Beaker Need No Water Records

Article written by Mary B - Jun 26, 2009

This is my first meeting with Soy Un Caballo but I am familiar with This Is The Kit's music. I saw Kate (This Is The kit) a few years back and she was spellbinding live. Soy Un Caballo have taken her song 'Birchwood Beaker' and made it their own. Its haunting arrangements and enigmatic vocals make for 4.43 minutes of pure music bliss. The Belgian couple, Thomas Van Cotton and Aurelie Muller have made me want to seek out other material that they are responsible for based on this release. The female vocals in particular swim straight to the heart.

Kate's original version is on the flip side to put the icing on the cake. Kate has a unique voice that is full of genuine emotion. Seek her out if you can. 'Need no water Records' has quenched my thirst for glorious indie pop/folk sounds for now.
