Cousins XL Recordings 7”

‘Cousins’ is excellent: fast, catchy and ultra rhythmic Afropop, as smart as their previous kwassa kwassa efforts but this time it’s a less self-conscious deployment of their influences. Drummer Chris Tomson deserves massive props for his incredibly fast and energetic pounding. Shame ‘California English Part 2’ on the flip lets things down. Its programmed synth beats and electronic drums remind you of Laurie Anderson but the vocals are pure Sting. I guess b-sides are where you hide your mistakes.
