Adam Woolway’s falsetto might be slightly unsettling (Justin Hawkins may ask for his voice back now) but the song is surprisingly powerful yet melodic, like Arcade Fire crossed with the Wedding Present. It’s a far more approachable song that you might assume from their raucous live performance. There’s the same orchestrated glory as on debut single ‘A Day Another Day’ but you can almost visibly see it grow in sound and power from its soft beginning to the ultra rhythmic everyone-singing crescendo, held together by the perfect drumbeat. Proof that they can do subtle is on the flipside, ‘The Forgotten Family’, which has Adam’s yelping style and strange semi-pronunciation of words accompanied by banjo and glockenspiel for a more chilled out approach.
